So strangers- I am back.
I have been so busy with exams and juggling work, things have been insane.
But a lot has changed in my life, some good and some not so good.
I went RED!
And No- not Rihanna red, although, it looks similar when I stand in the sun, but it is a deep wine red. I was so scared yet excited. I’ve been planning this for a while now and I am still getting used to looking at the girl in the mirror.

My colour when I'm in the sunlight. |
Finding the best colour scheme to work with:
In am very fair and I surprise my when it comes to colour.
Hair: My natural colour is a dirty pale brown.
I have had my hair black. I though it would be harsh against my skin tone but ladies, if you are fair, don’t be afraid to experiment. It all depends how you are able to ‘work with it’ or pull the look off by styling your complete look.
As I said before, I am now a deep wine red- and it doesn’t appear to be that bad.
I am finding one complication- I am not sure what colours to wear because I don’t want to look like a rainbow (filled with colours), especially to work. But I am determined to make this work.

Experimenting with random shades of nail-polish:
I have been admiring the pale, washed-out colours, example: creams, salmon
These shades I think add a fashion statement when added to the bold, avant- gard fashion we all seem to follow and purchase.
So this was a funny experience for me. On Sunday, when I had my hair done, the stylist doing my hair didn’t even hesitate for me to first see how my hair looked once complete before bombarding me, trying to force me to buy all these various products that in total ranges over R1000, and of course, these are a ‘MUST’ as no other shampoo or conditioner works! Only their products will work, the rest will ruin everybody’s hair. I felt so pressured, the more I’m saying “not right now, I’ll probably consider one product, not all” the more she brings another product and says “okay, we’ll keep it for you”. Sometimes these are the negative point that when considering to go to the hair salon, you have to prepare yourself to be stern.
Steps to consider when attempting to being stern:
- Don’t look as though you doubting yourself.
- Don’t hesitate in ANYTHING you say or answer.
- Smile while you are talking/responding, any look of sadness gives them hope that you might reconsider to buy a product
- Keep eye contact. Avoiding eye contact, you’ll feel guilty/ bad and gives them even further hope
- Don’t use words like: ‘um, or, I think, maybe, not sure’- Just be direct and say No thank you but I’m not interested. This avoids them taking more and more products out for you to look at, knowing that right now you cant afford it.
Tip for this winter:
Please stock up on a lot of ascorbic acids such as oranges, naartjies, lemons and more.
Instead of filling up on food when feeling the hunger jump in; make yourself a cup of tea or coffee, as to not bulk yourself up.
Warm colours are in with a touch of washed out colours in your nails or make-up.
Please don’t do your make-up in a warm colour scheme, it will appear a bit too harsh for now.
